Who we are

The Mediterranean Geo-Community is an informal community of scholars and professionals in earth sciences and in geotechnical engineering, pursuing scientific purposes and support to institutions.
The Mediterranean Geo-Community has been conceived and settled by: Giovanni B. Crosta, Giorgio Lollino, Luciano Picarelli and Gianfranco Urciuoli.

Objectives

The main objectives of the Community are:

- contributing in the spreading of technical and scientific culture in the field of earth science and geotechnical engineering in the Countries of the Mediterranean sea, accounting for the specific Mediterranean context with special reference to problems related to land stability; 

-  improving the relations between scholars and researchers working in the area.

Activities

The Mediterranean Geo-Community promotes and organizes conferences, seminars, lectures and doctoral schools.

The Community supports help in finding information about PhD programs, research grants,  academic positions and job opportunities. 

Events

The Mediterranean Symposium on Landslides

​

The first Mediterranean Symposium on Landslides MSL-2021 was organized in June 2021. The event, devoted to Slope Stability Problems in Stiff Clays and Flysch Formations, was held on-line (https://medsymplandslides.wixsite.com/msl2021).

Presentations delivered during MSL-2021 were recorded and are available at the page:

Almost all papers are available in special issues published by Engineering Geology and Italian Geotechnical Journal. 

 

The 2nd Mediterranean Symposium on Landslides will be held in Tunisia in 2023.

 

Mediterranean Lectures

​

Scientific lectures will be periodically delivered by outstanding scholars.

The 1st Mediterranean Lecture will be held in June 2022 (ML-2022).
